Brian Werner, CFA®, CFP®, is managing member of Winthrop Partners’ Pittsburgh offices. Brian has over 20 years of experience in investments and financial planning. Most recently, Brian served as First Vice President of First Niagara’s Western Pennsylvania Private Client Services. Brian is a Chartered Financial Analyst and assists with investment research and portfolio management.
What do you like about being a financial services professional?
Everybody has a different story, both personal and financial. I enjoy learning about my clients’ stories and being a positive force in helping them realize their goals. Wealth management is a dynamic profession, which requires staying up to date on changes in markets, laws and clients’ personal situations. I am committed to the body of knowledge and continued learning that is required of top-tier professionals in this field. Additionally, I am highly motivated to protect people from many of the predatory practices in the financial services industry.
What are your goals for your clients?
I want clients to have confidence that their advisory team is operating exclusively in their best interest, and that team has the experience, credentials, knowledge and commitment to put them in the best possible spot to achieve their personal goals.
What experience and credentials do you have?
I have 20+ years in investments, financial planning, entrepreneurial ventures, corporate finance and banking, which gives me invaluable and wide-ranging insight in planning and investment services.
Most recently, as First Vice President, Senior Wealth Advisor for First Niagara, I led the development of First Niagara’s Western Pennsylvania Private Client Services and served on the banks western Pennsylvania operating committee. My investment and wealth management experience included time as a Relationship Manager and Planner at PNC/National City, Investment Analyst with Greycourt Investment Advisors and Commodities Trading/Hedging Specialist at Linnco Future Group, Chicago Board of Trade.
I was co-founder and CFO of iCatcher Network, a venture capital backed start-up company where I led the strategic development and eventual successful sale of the company.
I am a Chartered Financial Analyst,® Certified Financial Planner.™ I have been recognized as one of America’s top financial planners. Additionally, I hold an MBA from Duquesne University, Magna Cum Laude, and am a graduate of University of Dayton, Cum Laude.
What community organizations do you support or belong to?
I am a member of The Pittsburgh Estate Planning Council, Pittsburgh Financial Analyst Society. I volunteer my time in the Edgewood Community as a volunteer basketball and soccer coach. I volunteer with the 14th Ward Baseball Association and on the Board of Larry’s Legacy Foundation.
Can you give us a glimpse of your personal life?
My wife Monica and I returned to our hometown of Pittsburgh in 2005 to raise our two children and settled in Edgewood, PA. My free time is spent with family and friends – traveling, skiing, mountain biking and enjoying the outdoors. Monica and I are active members of the Edgewood community and St. Bede Parish. I can often be found coaching soccer, baseball, skiing, basketball and other activities my children are pursuing.
