UNDERSTAND
The key to building a comprehensive plan is understanding our clients, their financial circumstances, their risk profiles, and their financial goals. We ask the right questions and actively listen to gain an extensive understanding of your needs.
DESIGN
Using financial models, information gathered from the first meeting, and additional financial documents, we develop a plan. We present a personalized and dynamic plan tailored to your unique situation and goals.
IMPLEMENT
Once approved, we begin the implementation process by transferring and consolidating all your assets under one umbrella. We review key issues and use extensive resources available through Raymond James to set up your account for third-party custodial monitoring. All the while, we maintain high transparency, keep you educated and informed, and ensure quality communication throughout.
MONITOR
As a fiduciary, it’s our responsibility to construct, implement, monitor, and review your portfolio on a regular basis to ensure your investments align with your goals and objectives.
Our Approach to Retirement Planning
Winthrop Partners takes a comprehensive, goals-based approach to retirement planning. Building a plan and portfolio that delivers on your vision of the future requires an analytical and intuitive approach.
- The Analytical: We use powerful financial models to create a portfolio that avoids unnecessary risk and maximizes value.
- The Intuitive: We get to know our clients to understand what value means to them. We learn what their goals are, what their risk tolerance is, and what financial security looks like to them.
Because retirement is about lifestyle and not just piles of money, a retirement portfolio built purely to increase profits will ultimately disappoint. That is why we work with individuals and families that want complete financial goals, and not just larger returns.

Retirement Planning Process
The first 3 critical steps in our process are free of charge.
1. Introductory Meeting
The key to building an efficient and robust retirement plan is understanding our clients, their financial circumstances, their risk profiles and their financial goals. During our initial phone or in-person introductory meeting, we ask the right questions and actively listen so that we gain an extensive understanding of your needs before building your retirement plan. In addition to establishing a Risk Profile, we request source documents, like tax returns and deferred compensation plans so our models are based on accurate information. Contact us here to book an introductory meeting.
Because we invest in you before you invest in us, our introductory meeting is provided at no charge.
2. The Creation of Your Retirement Plan
Using our financial models, information gathered from the first meeting, and additional financial documents, we develop your retirement plan. Once we build your initial plan, we meet to present a personalized and dynamic plan tailored to your unique situation and goals. During this meeting, we make any necessary adjustments, create “what if” scenarios focusing on major elements of the plan and outline actions for implementation. Sometimes a re-assessment of alternatives such as savings, spending rates, retirement dates, and portfolio allocations are made to improve the probability of success.
The creation of your retirement plan is also provided at no charge.
3. Creation of Your Investment Allocation
As a starting point your risk assessment questionnaire establishes a preliminary allocation of your assets according to your risk profile. During the financial planning process this preliminary allocation is re-examined and then tested over 1,000 times to determine if the allocation works within your overall plan.
Your investment allocation is provided at no charge.
4. Consolidation and Transition of Accounts
Once you approve your retirement plan, we use it to refine your investment requirements and develop an Investment Policy that meets your goals. When you move forward with working with us, we begin transferring and consolidating your assets under one umbrella. We review key issues and, using the extensive resources available to us through Raymond James, set up your account for third-party custodial monitoring.
Using an array of stocks, bonds, REITs, and ETFs, we focus on investments that meet our due diligence process and best meet your goals while imposing the least amount of risk.
During this stage of the process there is frequent communication on an as-needed basis to ensure that the client is informed of the markets and confident of their investments. We maintain high transparency and keep you educated and informed.
5. Management, Reporting, and Discussion
As a fiduciary it is our responsibility to construct, implement, monitor, and review your retirement portfolio on a regular basis to ensure that your investments are aligned with your financial goals.
Retirement management is a dynamic process that evolves as your assets grow, and life changes occur. We update your portfolio to ensure it adapts to your new goals.
You will receive monthly reports on your portfolio from Raymond James. Additionally, we use specilized software to create customized reports that provide more detail on your portfolio’s, asset allocation balance and performance ot the assets you’re keenly interested in.
We meet with you annually and at your request. During your engagement with us, we constantly review your portfolio and make any adjustments that may be beneficial to your financial goals.

Our Approach to Investment Management
Investment management is about risk management.
- When investing, the biggest risk to investors is price volatility – how quickly
and how drastically the price can fluctuate. - Other forms of risk can be more psychological in nature. For example, a desire to exit the market when investment values steeply decline.
At Winthrop Partners, we create portfolios that are aligned with each client’s goals, personality, and risk tolerance. We get to know each client personally, assess their level of risk, analyze their current assets, then create an investment profile and allocation that is unique to them.
